The topic that I chose to research in Genius Hour 2 was “Interior Design”. “Interior Design” is the art or process of designing the interior decoration of a room or building. The reason why I chose “Interior Design” is because it’s my dream job. I love doing design and since I was also interested of decorating houses; I started to have a big interest on “Interior Design”. In my family, there are not a lot of people that do designing because most of them are interested on doing business or medical studies which is one reason why I chose “Interior Design”
Another reason why, is because “Interior Design” is not consisted of having a job place which means that I can do what I like while seating on the bed or being at home but I still have to meet my clients. While researching the topic, I learned a lot of stuff such as there is no specific job place to do “Interior Design”. Another cool fact is that you can be a good interior designer without even knowing how to draw because you can use computer websites to help you sketch.
Researching the topic helped me grow as a person because it made me realize that I know what I want to be when I grow up and it also helped me have more interest in searching universities even though it’s still early. In some way, what I learned didn’t really help the world or community but it did help me to know what I want to be when I grow up. I am not sure what I want to do for the next Genius Hour project but I hope that it will somehow help the community or the world.

There’s a project we’ve been doing called Twitter Expert/Academic Connect in my Digital Citizen class. The project is also connected to another project going on called Genius Hour. It’s a project in the classroom where we students are allowed to explore our own passions and wonders for a set amount of time, usually ranging from 1 hour per week to 20%. The Twitter Expert/Academic Connect is connected to Genius Hour because we are suppose to use twitter as a source of information. The project is consisted of an account twitter in which we have to follow 10 people that has a connection with your passion. Then we get to ask them about 10 questions about your Genius Hour project.
In my twitter account, I have followed about 10 people; @lisahfitz; @JIAinterio; @DelaneyDesignCo; @nikimcneill; @JeffAndrewsDsgn; @Art_of_Designs; @autopilotgraeme ; @IgorJosif and @MrsErikaWard. I followed those accounts because some of them have experience with Interior Design. Some are teachers or Designers. The reason why I followed them is because they all are linked with Interior Design so they can answer to some of my questions. The information that I requested was how wasthe process they had to do to be an official Interior Designer and how did they work in a daily basis.
The way I asked my questions was polite and I didn’t make myself look creepy. Unfortunately, none of the designers that I asked questions didn’t answer them some of them just liked my tweet or just ignored. Although, all the Interior Designers had followed me and they also like some of my previous tweets about them. In conclusion, I could use this process in the future by keeping contact with them so that if I need any help on any projects; they could help me.
So what music is to me. Well music is the only thing that makes me relax it’s basically my drug. I love music because whenever I am in a bad mood or good mood there’s a song that makes me want to move. Music is also linked to my addiction of dancing. I love dancing and I can’t resist to dance to anything and when I mean anything, I mean it. While I am writing this post, I am actually listening to music. I listen to different kinds of music but it’s only if it’s popular or it’s catchy. Whenever I am in the car I put the volume on to listen to the music because it keeps me awake even though I hate my mornings.
I have no really types of music but most of the time it’s either way rap, pop or African songs. I still have a lot of pop songs than other songs. If the song is really catchy and has a really good beat then I am probably going to end up to listen to that song for forever. My only problem is that in my computer or phone I remove most of the songs because I hate to listen to the same music every time. So for example I can have 50 songs then in two weeks I have only 20 songs left. But it depends, because if it’s my favorite singer than I am going to have the song for forever.
I am going to give my 6 favorite songs.
- LUV by Tory Lanez
- Bad by Tiwa Savage ft Wizkid
- Come first by Terror Jr
- Work Remix by R3hab
- Me Like Yuh by Jay Park (currently listening to K-pop)
- All I Wanna Do by Jay Park (currently listening to K-pop)
MY TOP SONG from this list is……………….. Me Like Yuh by Jay Park. I love this song because it has good beat.
There are so many communities around Senegal. I am not part of that many in Senegal but there’s one community in which I love. The community is the Rwandan community in Senegal. This community is awesome; since there’s a lot of Rwandan in Senegal; people have decided to create a big community.
This community is consisted of so many people; Rwandan or not, it’s still a big community. I have been living in this community since I was five and I have known and said goodbye to so many people throughout the community.
Basically, what we do is we go somewhere (sometimes my school, open for everyone but we have to pay) in which there’s a gym or a field. And for the entire day (probably 2PM to 8PM) we play games such as basketball, volleyball, soccer, running and games for kids. After that we have a speech from our ambassador or an entertainment, then we have a barbecue.
It is kinda of an event that happens 2-4 times each year. For example, last weekend we had one event and it was really fun. We opened the event by playing games consisted of kids jumping in bags of potatoes (no potatoes in there) and racing with a spoon with small balls. Then we played basketball and volleyball (I played all the games!!!). Then, I just wander around the school with my friends. Later on, the ambassador made a speech and me and my three friends we performed a song called “Heal the World!!”. And we ate meat kebab with drinks and had dessert.
This community is amazing because it gets us to interact with other people. Because of this community I have met a lot of great friends!!!

When I was kid; I dreamed to do so much stuff. Obviously, when we were kids we dreamed about being successful or save the world. When I was a kid; I dreamed of being a singer. I always thought that I could sing very well and my parents said that I was a good singer but that was a lie 🙁 As I grew older; I still loved singing but I knew I wasn’t going to make much out of it. So I started to have some interest in acting. I didn’t play in any plays because I was really shy but I was really good at it. In my middle school years, I started to get interest on Architecture. The way you could create houses made me excited about it. Unfortunately, I was not really good at math at that time which is one big topic to study in Architecture. So when I started High School, I realized I love Interior Design, it kinda of combines two of my favorite subject which is obviously Art (Painting and Drawing) and Tech Design. I already planned which country I was going to for university (Canada or Spain). Which university I want to go (Humber College; Carleton University; Ryerson University or more). Which program I am going to choose; Interior Design (Duhhhh!!). And the rest is yet to know. It’s crazy but we never know!!!!!
Recently, I visited two blog sites: Dasie’s and Jada’s. I commented on Dasie’s “SHould schools have dress code” post and Jada’s “My favorite port” post. I liked Dasie’s posts because I thought it was really interesting to talk about this subject. She talks about how schools do have good dress code, but it could also be unfair to the students when they have limited options. Which I thought was interesting because it is really common in High School. My comment was “Hey Dasie! My name is Johanna. I think you are right; dress code is really strict in some schools. For example in my school so many people break those rules (big deal) but they never get called while I once broke the code (not a big deal) and I had to change my outfit which was really unfair. MY opinion is that the dress code is good but they should take it more seriously.” You guys should definitely go check her out on http://dasie0716.edublogs.org/.
Then, I visited Jada. I visited Jada’s blog because she commented on one of my posts saying that we shared interests together so I decided to visit her. In her post; she explains her favorite sport, which is Gymnastics. She gives us her schedules and routine she has when doing Gymnastics. I was really interested because I never thought that Gymnastics was really hard. My comment was “Hey, remember me it’s Johanna. I really like your post; it made me realize that gymnastics was not easy. I am sure its been really hard for you. Same for me we started basketball season and I have been working so hard to balance education and my favorite sport. Hope you can comment more on my blog!!” You guys should check her out on https://2021cjs.edublogs.org/.

I love travelling. It’s one of most amazing thing to do. Usually for my vacations I go in Rwanda my native country (read my about me page!!!) but I’ve been in several countries so far and I hope I can visit more. Some of them are Turkey, South Africa, Morocco, Denmark, Belgium, Canada and France. So for my free choice I decided to write about some of my adventures in those countries and maybe you could share some of your experiences in the comments.
The first country I ever visited was South Africa; I was about 1 years old or 2 years old. The voyage was really vague but I still remember how much fun I had with my cousins. The second country was Morocco. With the family we went sightseeing and bought so many gifts. But my favorite memories was when we went to the water park (my first one too!!) and when we met one of the nicest family that helped us to know more about Morocco. The third country and fourth country were Belgium and Turkey in 2012. We spent 2 weeks in Belgium then 3 weeks in Turkey. In Belgium we visited our cousins and we also went to sight-see. Then in Turkey; we had so much fun. I celebrated my birthday there and we went to a restaurant. The owner of the restaurant was really nice and he even got me a gift. We also went to the “Princess Islands” (should visit first). They treated girls like princesses.
The next ones were Denmark, Belgium and France (at the same time). 1 week in Belgium just to visit some of our family members (also to take the train to go in France). 2 or 1 week in France; unfortunately we didn’t do that much not even sightseeing but we were really close too the Tour Eiffel. We also went to Disneyland (first one!!); which was really fun. Then we went in Denmark for 2 weeks. We visited a friend of my dad; and we had so much with their kids. My favorite memory is when we went to Lego Land; my big brother and sister and I did so many rides that I can’t remember how much. Then two years ago we went in Canada to visit my big brother and sister who were off in college. We also visited a lot of our relatives that lived there. We also went in Calypso but unfortunately I couldn’t swim because I was badly injured. At least next year we’re going in Canada again for my sister’s graduation from college.
I hope you guys liked it!! Because I had so much fun writing to you guys!! Don’t forget to comment!!!

For the past two months we have been working on a topic of our choice for our Genius Hour Project. The topic that I chose was “Types of drawing”. I chose this topic because I really love drawing and I was really interested in finding new ways to draw. It helped me grow as a person; by introducing me, many ways of drawing. This topic helped me by showing some of my art works and trying new ways to draw because I want to learn more about my passion. This topic made me also try those new ways and I got great comments on some of my artwork. It could also help people, around me, that are hesitating on drawing and get them many ideas of how to draw. It will help me, be confident of myself by trying new things then only focusing on one type. Because of this project I have decided not to be really hesitant and try new stuff that will help me learn more.

Hello everyone!!
Hope you had a great weekend! Today, I decided to talk about my country; Rwanda. I have lived my whole life in Senegal (about 11 years) but before, I lived in Rwanda. My mom and dad are both 100% Rwandan which makes me on too. Known for its bloody Genocide; there is still so many amazing facts and places about Rwanda that you guys should all know. Here are 10 amazing facts of Rwanda:
- Rwanda is a small, mountainous landlocked country in East Africa.
- In fact, Rwanda earned the nickname ‘Land of a Thousand Hills’ due to its mountainous terrain!
- The capital of Rwanda is Kigali.
- Plastic bags are not allowed in Rwanda due to the mess and environmental harm they can cause, that’s amazing!
- In fact, they are so concerned about cleanliness that in Kigali it is compulsory for all residents to help clean their community on the last Saturday of each month! (Called Umuganda)
- Umuganda can be translated as ‘coming together in common purpose to achieve an outcome’.
- 80% of Rwandans take part in Umuganda, between 18 t0 65 .
- Rwandans have built schools, medical centers, hydroelectric plants, and rehabilitated wetlands to create highly productive agricultural plots, and cleaned their cities, towns and villages – making Kigali one of the cleanest cities in Africa.
- Did you know, Rwanda is the first country in the world to have a female majority parliament? Girl power!
- The official languages of Rwanda are French, English, Kinyarwanda and Kiswahili (which is a mix of Kinyarwanda and Swahili).
Hope you like it!!! (Don’t forget to comment ♥)
